Dr. Hasan Mahmud earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Previously, he was a Fulltime Visiting Faculty of Sociology, at Ball State University, USA in 2014-15. Courses he taught there were Globalization, Introductory Sociology, Sociological Theories, and Leisure. After the completion of his PhD, Dr. Mahmud worked as a Teaching Fellow at Department of Sociology, University of California, Los Angeles (2012-13).

He has published research articles in top-tier academic journals including in the International Migration, International Social Science Journal, Migration and Development, Sociological Perspectives, and Current Sociology. He regularly writes in newspapers and magazines.

His research interests are labor migration, remittance, development, globalization, identity politics, racism, decolonization, ethnography.
